The evaporative emission control (EVAP) system prevents fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere.

Driving with this code won’t damage anything, but it is recommended to repair it to get your vehicle back to optimum running condition. In rare cases, you may smell a fuel vapor smell. Diagnosis: This trouble code doesn’t affect how the car runs but does cause excessive emissions.Repair Urgency: Get this fixed within the next month.Issue Severity: LOW – Continued driving for a short period of time is okay.P0452 definition: Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Low Input. There must be some reason it won't, and perhaps someone who is more knowledgeable about these systems will enlightenment us. It is a small thing, but it bugs me that the CEL won't clear after fixing it. Far2Grumpy provided info that it will stay in memory at least 40 ignition cycles! Until I have further evidence, I am assuming that my EVAP system is quirky. I have a hard time believing an OEM gas cap is not sealing, and I have checked the seal for contact, and all is well. Even clearing the code by pulling the ECM fuse doesn't work very long, as it either retains it in long term memory or it continues to read low pressure. Either my cap isn't sealing, there is something else wrong, or the EVAP electronic system is buggy and can't give a code or recognize the problem is fixed. It gives a grace period of 1 or 2 ignition cycles before giving the code, and it's supposed to clear it once the cap is replaced. Loose gas caps will give a code, as the system will not pressurize correctly. According to what I've read, the ECM goes through a checklist at start-up, and the EVAP system has its sequence that it checks off on before giving the system an okay. The code should clear itself, but it is persistent. I recently had the same gas cap problem, replaced with an OEM cap, cleared the code, and the CEL keeps recurring with no code. I thought it took x number of startup cycles before it turned off but I haven't been able to pinpoint this as being the actual thing that resets it. Oh and ours really has no rhyme or reason for when it comes on/off.

maybe we got an incorrect cap when they replaced it.īy flapper, do you mean the actual piece (on mine it's metal) that I push the gas nozzle against to get it in? I am going to have to deal with this car on Saturday and I'm going to question which cap we have vs. I'm interested in the fact that this has two different gas caps depending on the flapper inside the filler.

My wife is the primary driver of this vehicle until the heavy snow hits then it becomes mine since I driver further and utilize the AWD of it more. It's off and on now and it's frustrating. Sorry I didn't monitor this more closely. Anyone know where it is exactly located in my vehicle which is an 04 V6 Vue. I reset it three times.īought a new OEM cap today and thought I would wait on resetting to see if CEL light would go away on its own.Īlso told by GM dealer my 04 used one of two differant gas caps, depending on flapper inside gas filler, plastic flapper uses one cap, metal flapper uses other cap.Īlso still looking for info on the Evaporative emissions purge solenoid valve. I put on a new cap from auto zone and it threw the code after resetting at almost exactly 75 miles each time I reset the code. If this were my small Honda, I would likely know where to look, but on this thing, I want to make sure I'm looking in the right place.Īny other insight is greatly appreciated!įor those of you that have changed your gas cap I have two questions,ġ-Did the CEL go off on its own or was it reset by you?Ģ-If it went off on its own how long did it take?

Does anyone have a link to a service manual for one of thses so I can correctly check the Vacuum hoses and EVAP canister? I'm not familiar with V6 engines and this one in particular. What would cause the CEL to throw the code AFTER replacing the broken OEM gas cap with a new one?Ģ. As of now, I have exchanged the gas cap at AZ thinking maybe I just got a bad one.ġ. 2 days later, threw CEL P0455 (major EVAP leak) Decided to get a new gas cap this past week. I could simply turn and turn and turn and it would never lock against the filler opening. About 3 weeks ago, noticed our gas cap would no longer turn and lock. OK, so I've read up on the gas cap issue with the VUE when my gas cap went bad.
